Declaration of Independence

You are a citizen of one of the 13 colonies. The time is mid-July 1776. You have just heard of the issuance of the Declaration of Independence.

What reasons might cause you to withhold your support of the Declaration? (3 sentences required)

  1. You could still feel loyal to the English Crown. You could believe there is too much power to the people. You could go against it because you aren't sure of what exactly it means.

  2. You have trust issues and don't like change. You felt things were alright with the way it was before. It could just be a ploy to control your life but make it seem like they are being cool.

  3. You don't agree with the Declaration on Independence. You don't believe that what they are doing is the right thing for the United States. You just don't want to agree with the government.

  4. i would still feel a loyalty to the crown. Another reason would be the fear of loosing and being killed for treason. I would also think that it would be too good to be true so i would be very skeptic of it.

  5. I would be worried that the National Government would overtake States' rights. I also would be worried of the National Government being too powerful and the people not being able to do anything about it. I would also be scared of things changing drastically.

  6. I may withhold my support to the Declaration of Independence because it could cause more war between England and the Colonies. If the British won i could end up in a lot of trouble.

  7. I may feel like change to the country would not work. With change people would hesitate on decisions. I would also think government was taking over more not being used to it.

  8. The government may not work at the end of it. I would of worried about the English colon coming to get me for going with the other side. I would also question the Delcaration of Independence.
