Emergency Surgery

The Franklins, Ali and Lomalinda, had no medical insurance and urgently needed money for emergency surgery for their infant child. They could not qualify for a bank loan and they didn't belong to a credit union. An acquaintance referred them to someone's name Slye, who'll lend you money on sight. No collateral. No credit report. Just show him you've got a steady job. The Franklins borrowed $2500 from Slye and agreed to pay $325 on the first of each month in 12 easy installments. Later a lawyer told them that the loan contract was illegal.

Was it? Explain.
How much money must the Franklins repay?

  2. I think the contract is illegal. Slye is not licensed for this job. Also, the Franklins probably never signed an agreement. The Franklins should have to pay any money back. The contract is illegal which makes it void

  3. I believe the contract was legal. you can make a contract with anyone. they set clear terms and rules and a time to pay it back by. they must repay the full amount back. that amount is $2,500.

  4. I think the contract is illegal. Slye isn't licensed. Since it is illegal it is void.

  5. I don't think this sounds illegal. Unless you have to have a license to loan money, this was okay. They will owe an extra $1970 with their fee. The contract isn't illegal, probably.

  6. Even though the Franklins did not know what they were doing was wrong it was. The reason why the lawer said it was illegal was that they did not have a right contract for it. You must not barrown moeny without a contract. What if they were not able to pay back? They would be introubble for stealing money. They would have had to pay back more every month.

  7. The contract is illegal. Slye is loaning money over the legal loan limit. The Franklins should only have to pay back the amount that was loans. Because it is illegal Slye should not be able to make money off of this contract

  9. I feel that the contract was illegal, therefore the Franklins should not have to pay it back. They did not know the contract was illegal therefore it would be void.

  10. Where the contract is illegal they will not have to pay he money back. But Franklins should not borrow money from random people offering money out. And there should really get medical insurance.

  11. That contract is illegal. Slye seems like a shady dude and he isn't licensed for his job. There was no agreement signed for it. The Franklins must repay all the $2500 from Slye. They also must pay the medical stuff without help.
